Visitor Visa

Visitor visa (also called a temporary resident visa) is an official document that we stick in your passport. It shows that you meet the requirements needed to enter Canada.

Most travellers need a visitor visa to travel to Canada. You may also need one if you’re transiting through a Canadian airport on your way to your final destination.

How long you can stay?

Canada is a country where most visitors can stay up to six months.

The border services officer at the port of entry may permit you to stay less than or more than six months. If they do, they will put the date that you must leave by in your passport. You might also be given a document called a visitor record. This will indicate the date you must leave.

You can stay in Canada for up to 6 months if you do not have a stamp on your passport. You can ask the border services officer to stamp you.
